Comparison is the Thief of Joy

Ohhhhhh social media. You little devil you. On one hand, social media is an amazing tool to stay connected to people. On the other hand, social media can be such a distraction from life, often bringing elements of negativity with it.

How often do you find yourself on social media, saying to yourself “oh, I should do that” or “I should be doing this”? How often are you “shoulding” on yourself? I know I catch myself doing this all too frequently.

Back in the day (LOL) when I ventured into fitness, there was no social media. No chat forums to get info. Almost no online trainers. I pretty much only used my computer to write university papers on, never mind this “internet” thing! Wow how times have changed!

Now, with one tap on your smart phone you can easily creep on your competitors, find tons of (some useless) info and have your mind bombarded with images and notions of how you “should” be living/doing/achieving….based on what others let the world see, and with a filter none the less.

I miss the simpler times, when messages were straight forward and the only competition was the one I saw in the mirror. Not the 18 million filtered things I see daily all over the place.
