Just Lift It

As a Personal Trainer, I get many inquiries from women about how to get fit and stay in shape. It’s a balance between consistent healthy eating habits, weight training and strategic cardio. The second I mention weights, I often get the “deer in the headlights” look coupled with a nervous anxiety. “But, I don’t want to get big,” they’ll say. That response drives me nuts! Seriously, what makes you think that curling a 2.5lb dumbbell is going to give you biceps the size of Arnold’s?

Women lift real weights. And, even if you’re lifting with great intensity and strength – it’s naturally impossible for a female to get huge. So, put down the little pink rubber weights and start sculpting your fabulous physique with some real resistance! You’ll look and feel more confident in your sexy summer clothes (and any of your clothes year round!). And as an added bonus, you’ll give other ladies at the gym motivation to do the same for themselves. Plus, it’ll get the men inspired to work on their own goals. You can’t have a girl showing you up at the gym, can you!

If you find you’re mindlessly going through the motions, eyes wandering all over the place and bored out of your tree when you’re working out, then you need to put more poundage on the bar. Your body will thank you for it. It’ll also help to keep your mind stimulated. Whatever is going on in your head, your body will follow. Tell yourself, “I am beautiful. I am strong. I am powerful and can do anything I set my mind to.” Where the mind goes, the body follows!

Now, whether you’re training to lose weight, for conditioning purposes or for a sports specific event – picking up something heavy and moving it around is going to give you many benefits, besides just looking good. It burns calories, develops your muscles, helps with bone density, helps to sculpt and tighten those stubborn areas that you love to hate, builds speed and power as well as gives you a sense of inner empowerment.

So, now that you know you should be lifting weights, what do you do next? You’re new to this whole healthy lifestyle thing and you’re not sure what you should be doing, how you should be doing it and why exactly you should be heaving around the stuff in the first place. This is where a Personal Trainer comes into play. Hire an experienced professional that’ll show you how to maximize results in the most efficient and safest manner. They’ll educate you on why adding resistance training to your routine is essential for a comprehensive health and fitness plan.

Rejoice in your strength. You’re female, fit and strong!

It all comes down to YOU. Take ownership of what you’re doing or not doing.

Your life. Your results. 1 degree of separation.
